How do you install a car seat on an aircraft seat?
I am taking a 4 hour flight with my 2 year old and was wondering whether I should bring our car seat on the plane. I have purchased a ticket for my daughter. How does my Graco seat attach to the airplace seat? Will it be the same as in the car?
You will have to contact the airline you are flying with to find out specifics, but as a rule airlines require that your car seat have stickers that say it is approved for use in aircraft. If you are unsure where to look for the stickers call the car seat manufacturer and ask. Most standard airplanes seats are about 17 inches across, but again, you'll have to double check with the airline you are flying with. It is a violation of FAA regulations for any airline to restrict you from using a car seat on the plane, however, if it doesn't have the appropriate stickers or doesn't fit they can make you gate check it. The flight attendants will be able to help you install it.
EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that you are not allowed to use a car seat in an exit row; if you have already booked your flight and are in an exit row they should do their best to shuffle you around.
