I work at a picture framing store, and we use plexiglass instead of glass on all the pictures we frame. I would check at your local picture framing store and ask them if you can buy just a sheet of plexiglass. We sell it all the time to people who want to frame their own pictures, or make their own boxes for sports memorabilia. It is fairly inexpensive if you get one large sheet, and then just cut it down.
